Reggae Rollers
Andrew Newell has managed to do as he set out to. Jamaica has been recognised as a country that can now compete in the Commonwealth games playing Lawn Bowls. Andrew recognised around 3 years ago that Jamaica was not represented in the sport. Andrew worked tirelessly to lobby the right people in the Jamaican government. Their sports minister was made aware that there are club players with the right credentials who could compete under the flag in the Commonwealth Games. It was not as easy as written because the world bowls confederation also had to recognise that there is a credible team that can play the game at a good level. Andrew managed to get many countries to play the sport in Scotland just before the last Commonwealth games and also in a series of matches to show the appetite was and is there. On the 23rd March 2018 Andrew continued the hard work by putting on another showcase game inviting young and interested people to have a go at playing the sport. We here at Ramjam Radio has been behind Andrew from the onset and are very proud of his achievements. With a little luck we will be able to look proudly on our TV`s and viewing media and see Andrew & Mervin represent Jamaica for the very first time.
